ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL, AND GOVERNANCE
Goal#5: Gender Equality
Gender Equality
The Goal
Achieve gender equality and empower all females.
Why do we care about this:
Social progress can only be achieved if we ensure gender equality. Unfortunately, women are still widely underrepresented across political leadership and often must take up a disproportionate share of unpaid domestic work. Females represent half of the population – depriving them of the same opportunities means losing half of humankind’s potential.
What can we do to help fix the issue:
A good start is to inspect your own unconscious biases and those that might exist within your employment sector. Encourage your business to remove the barriers that prevent women from having equal opportunities within your workplace. There are many ways you can advocate for women or inspire and motivate young women and girls to achieve their full potential.

Goal#10: Reduced Inequalities
Reduced Inequalities
The Goal
Reduce inequalities within and among countries and societies.
Why do we care about this:
Inequality comes in many forms – income, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity and the list goes on. Its effects threaten long-term economic and social development, stagnate poverty reduction and destroy people’s sense of fulfilment and self-worth. When inequality is not addressed, it leads to increased crime, disease and environmental degradation. Only through the inclusion of all individuals, societies and countries will we achieve social development and create a better world for each of us.
What can we do to help fix the issue?
It is our duty to contribute to building a fair society where everyone is given the same opportunities. We must eliminate discriminatory laws, policies and practices to reduce inequalities and achieve equal opportunities. Governments and business organisations must promote safe and responsible migration, through planned and well-managed policies, for the millions who leave their homes seeking better lives due to war, discrimination, poverty or lack of opportunity.

Goal#13: Climate Action
Climate Action
The Goal
Take action to tackle climate change and its impacts.
Why do we care about this:
The effects of climate change are impossible to deny. 2010-2019 was the warmest decade ever recorded, causing extreme weather conditions such as wildfires, hurricanes and droughts. As we stepped into the new decade, the threats of global warming only intensified. Climate change is disrupting national economies and affecting many lives, and unfortunately, the most vulnerable are paying the highest price.
Can we solve this problem, or is it too late to act?
We might not have yet reached the tipping point, but we are ferociously close – the time for talks is over, time to act is now! To address climate change, we must vastly increase our efforts. We are already witnessing positive changes, such as soaring investments in renewable energy. But there is still much to be done. We must transform our energy, transport, food, agriculture and forestry sectors to ensure the global temperature stays below 2°C.
What can I do to help achieve this goal?
There are many ways to help as an individual or organisation. To learn more, read about the UN’s efforts on climate change.

Optimising existing AI models – a benefit being that computational power and complexity could be reduced (e.g. cloud computing) if redundant model features are found and removed etc., and that this would have a knock on positive effect for the environment.
Goal#16: Peace, Justice & Strong Communities
Peace, Justice & Strong Communities
The Goal
Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.
Why do we care about this:
Justice must be equal for all. Regardless of their faith, ethnicity, sexual orientation or place of birth, people worldwide must live free of fear and feel safe as they go about their lives. We must strive for peaceful and inclusive societies where everyone has the same access to justice. We will not achieve sustainable development if conflicts, insecurities, weak institutions and limited access to justice persist.
What can we do to help fix the issue?
We all have rights, and with them come obligations. We must exercise our rights to achieve the greater good. Don’t be silent if you see injustice – share your opinion with your elected representatives and hold them accountable when needed. On behalf of yourself, promote inclusion and respect towards people of different ethnic groups, religions, gender, sexual orientation or opposing opinions.

Goal#17: Partnerships for the Goals
Partnerships for the Goals
The Goal
Revitalise the global partnership for sustainable development.
Why do we care about this:
The Sustainable Development Goals are a framework for building a better world for all. If we are to achieve these goals by 2030, we must work together – this means governments, civil societies, scientists, academia and the private sector all must partake in the common goal of assuring a better world for us and the generations to come.
What can we do to help?
Start with yourself, read about SDGs and how they can help bring positive change, and spread the word to your local communities, encouraging more people to think about the world they wish to live in. Encourage your governments to partner with businesses for the implementation of SDGs. Register your initiative on the SDGs Partnership Platform to inform, educate, network and get inspired. And remember, every voice is important!
